2011′s top 10 most popular YouTube channels
With 2012 just a few days away, YouTubeChannelReviews.com has put together the top 10 list of the most watched, most successful, and without question the most popular YouTubers of 2011. Our staff took everything into consideration from the number of subscribers gained, to the amount of videos uploaded, and the total views for the year.
10.) kevjumba – Kevin Wu aka kevjumba on YouTube just barely cracks our 2011 top 10 list. Kev uploaded about 2 videos a month averaging around 3 million views each. His most famous video of the year was “Nice Guys” which over 14 million people watched as he teamed up with fellow YouTube star Ryan Higa. Kevin also gained a lot of popularity when he did a video with Jamie Chung, a hot actress known for her roles in the Hangover 2, Sorority Row, and Sucker Punch.
9.) CollegeHumor – College Humor has been around for a long time and they continued to produce quality content that kept their subscribers coming back for more. Their most famous video of 2011 was “even more problems with jeggings” which scored over 2 million views. While College Humor averages under 350k views per video, they make up for it by steadily pumping their channel with 20-30 new vids per month.
8.) nigahiga – YouTube is growing and there are many great new channels on the rise, just ask Ryan Higa. Coming into the year as the #1 most subscribed YouTube channel of all time, nigahiga continued to do his thing. His videos produced millions of views with his most famous being the video he did with kevjumba, “Nice Guys” which was viewed almost 29 million times on Ryan’s channel alone. However, his 2011 channel popularity did not match that of several new comers with incredible growth and excellent ratings.
7.) FPSRussia – One of those channels is the newly famous FPS Russia. The new #1 most subscribed (all time) Guru, FPS Russia had an action packed year blowing up new things every other week and annihilating the most viewed video charts. What many people don’t know is that the channel star, Kyle Myers, is actually an American who initially created the channel to demonstrate what the “real weapons” from popular video games like “Call of Duty” actually looked like in real life. Their most viewed video? “AA-12 Fully Automatic Shotgun”, which scored 20 million hits.
6.) EpicMealTime – Got Bacon? These guys do! Epic Meal Time’s success earned them a lot of dough this year. Their insane cooking show is watched by millions as they get creative in the kitchen with massive meals that’ll give you a borderline heart attack from just watching. Their best video of 2011 was “Fast Food Lasagna” which somehow included 45 burgers , Jack Daniels and 12 million views.
5.) smosh - Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla of the well known channel, Smosh, ranks a close #5 on our list. One of the original YouTube channels, this duo continues to hone their craft. They average about 3-4 videos a month, use eye catching thumbnails and show off their silly yet impressive acting skills. Their most popular video of the year was “Pokemon in Real Life” with 20 million views. Read our recently published.
4.) machinima – The team stayed busy as always pumping out thousands of videos in 2011. When it comes to the numbers game, Machinima can’t be beat, they put out more videos in a month then most YouTubers will in their lives. We estimated over 5,000 videos uploaded by Machinima in 2011 alone which is more than the top 100 list combined. ”Mortal Kombat – Legacy episode 1″ was their most popular with almost 16 million views.
3.) freddiew – Freddie Wong will have plenty of reasons to celebrate on New Years Eve , his channel saw enormous growth in 2011. He averaged 3-4 videos per month each of them seeing millions of views. His all time most popular video, “Future first person shooter” was uploaded just before Christmas last year providing a big momentum boost into 2011. “Real life Mario Kart” was uploaded in February being viewed over 14 million times – his most watched video of 2011.

2.) JennaMarbles - Perhaps you’ve heard of Jenna Marbles by now. She join YouTube on Feb of 2010 which was somewhat of a slow year for her. It wasn’t until the summer of 2011 that she really caught fire and since then her channel has been flooded with subscribers. Before July, she wasn’t even ranked in the top 100 list of YouTube channels. It was July 17th that she actually made the charts.
Her all time most popular video “How to trick people into thinking you’re good looking” – 31 million views as of today, was actually one of her first ones filmed in 2010. “How To Avoid Talking To People You Don’t Want To Talk To” uploaded 10 months ago, is at 14+ million hits and was her #1 video of 2011.
This article was published on Christmas Day of 2011 and as it stands Jenna Marbles has 1,919,633 subscribers (12/25/2011). It is our prediction that she will be the #1 subscribed YouTuber all time by the end of 2012. Her latest video “Bounce that Dick” will catapult her into 2012 and quickly become her most popular video passing her previous two. However, it is still 2011 and that belongs to no other than the YouTube strategic comedian Ray William Johnson.

1.) Ray William Johnson- RWJ’s show =3 (equals three) airs twice a week and is guaranteed to be watched by over 5 million viewers. He has a funny personality, a great editor, and picks 3 viral videos every few days to make fun of. His rise to fame has inspired many fellow YouTubers who attempt to copy his show without much success.
RWJ’s most viewed video of 2011 was “Sponge Bobble” which felt just short of 10 million views for the year. It was his 2nd channel that produced the big videos. Your Favorite Martian published 15 videos that saw over 10 million views each!
And.. it doesn’t hurt that everyone loves the “ray-william-johnson t-shirt girl“.
*Honorable mentions go to Shane Dawson TV, Real Annoying Orange and Mystery Guitar-man. These channels have been around for ages and have deep roots of loyal subscribers.

Its going to be interesting to see if anyone comes out of nowhere to make the top 10 in 2012 this year. Out of no where… i’d say a youtuber that was not in the top 100 most viewed or most subscribers in 2011.
